The NISMAT Runner's Resource Guide

To better prepare you for running, Lenox Hill Hospital's Nicholas Institute of Sports Medicine and Athletic Trauma (NISMAT) and the Department of Marketing, Community Relations and Health Education have developed The Runner's Resource Guide.
The Runner's Resource Guide focuses on the "basics" for the beginning runner. It describes how to run, how to develop a training program, and even how to select the proper footwear. The guide has been developed from the perspective of the novice runner by the professional staff of NISMAT. The guide provides information on the following topics:

- Diet Tips
- The Running Shoe
- Stress Testing
- The New Runner's Training Program
- Basic Stretching Exercises
- Basic Strengthening Exercises
Research Studies
Runners of all abilities needed for research studyWe are recruiting runners, 18 years and older, to participate in a research study which beginning in mid August, 1996. An over-the-counter nutritional supplement is being evaluated at our New York City facility. Volunteers will be provided with a B vitamin derivative for 1 month and changes in maximal aerobic capacity [VO2max] and mood state will be measured.
