Running is more than just a jog in the park. To be beneficial it requires good health, steady exercise, disciplined training, and appropriate precautions to reduce or eliminate any injuries common to running.

To better prepare you for running, Lenox Hill Hospital's Nicholas Institute of Sports Medicine and Athletic Trauma (NISMAT) and the Department of Marketing, Community Relations and Health Education have developed The Runner's Resource Guide.

The Runner's Resource Guide focuses on the "basics" for the beginning runner. It describes how to run, how to develop a training program, and even how to select the proper footwear. The guide has been developed from the perspective of the novice runner by the professional staff of NISMAT. The guide provides information on the following topics:

This guide is just one of the educational tools available for runners at the Lenox Hill Hospital Runner's Resource Comer. The Runner's Resource Comer, comprised of a series of brochures and audio-visual programs, is located at the Lenox Hill Hospital Health Education Center, 1080 Lexington Avenue (at the comer of East 76th Street), in New York City. The Center is open Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For additional information on the Runner's Resource Comer, please call: (212) 434-2980.
