NISMAT Athletic Trainer's Corner: Thumb -- Spica Taping
Stanley, 35 years old a highly trained martial artist whose hands are registered as deadly weapons was fighting his way towards a trophy in a very competitive match with Mary, the up and coming thirteen year old challenger.Stanley's strong headlock on Mary was broken when Mary grabbed his thumb and jerked it away from her head. Stanley was left teary-eyed by the mat's edge with a torn ulnar collateral ligament of his thumb murmuring, "No más, no más."
After being seen by his MD, the doctor requested that the trainers use a taping technique to provide support to the thumb at Metacarpal-Phalangial joint. What technique might be used?
